Gulfstream Park Championship Meet Week 13
Fountain of Youth Stakes week and there are multiple biases to take advantage of this week.
The dirt sprints have been speed-favoring as expected here at Gulfstream Park. They’re winning 53% of races and that cannot be overlooked when handicapping.
Closers are 10-for-118 and that tells you to eliminate anyone who projects to be in the back half of the field by the 1st call. Do not get caught backing a runner who will not be forward enough early in the race.
Speed is even more dominant going the route distance compared to the sprints. Closers are hitting at just 5% and stalkers are over 40%. It cannot be stressed enough how important it is to be on or near the pace in these races.
Post draw is a factor slightly since posts 1-3 are winning 50% of races.
The Fountain of Youth Stakes could be affected by the stalker bias that has been prominent this entire Championship Meet. Early horses have not been able to hold off horses sitting just off the pace in these races.
If you haven’t been targeting the Tapeta sprints this meet, you need to start. Posts 4-6 are winning 47% of races but that has been as high as 51% just three weeks ago. Posts 1-3 have been tough to win from and many favorites have lost when breaking from the inside draw.
Early speed is winning 45% of Tapeta sprints, but there have been plenty of days where only specific running styles have won. Be sure to check for those dates in the daily profiles. The same could be said for the winning post positions too because in the recent weeks, posts 4-6 have slowed down slightly.
Routes on the Tapeta have been fairly even all meet. It’s hard to want to fully commit to posts 4-6 being a bias winning 41% of races since it is just a total of four more wins than posts 1-3.
Running styles have favored off-the-pace runners over the early speed, as expected with synthetic races. These races are truly about the pace of the race and who can overcome the fractions.
These turf sprints are all about speed because they run just 5 furlongs and that is supported with 54% of races being won by early runners. It is hard for race shape to occur with such a short distance. Fastest final times will always be important. Be sure to remember that when handicapping this week.
Post draw isn’t something that looks too important from an overall perspective. It is worth mentioning that posts 1-3 are 0 for the last 8 races. There aren’t a lot of turf sprints, but that is an angle worth noting going into the week.
Stalkers consistently have their way each year during the Championship Meet in the turf routes. That has been the same this year as they’re winning 41% of the time after 124 races. It is interesting to see early runners and closers essentially have the same amount of winners too.
If you go back three weeks ago, you’ll see that stalkers were hitting at over 40% but early runners were trailing behind the closers. In recent weeks, the early runners have closed that gap.
Post positioning hasn’t been a factor besides the 7.5-furlong distance. That is where it pays off to be a paid subscriber because you would know that 76% of races at this distance are being won by one post group. Don’t miss out on leveraging these races to maximize your betting.
